Lori Ann LaRocco

Professional woman smiling with straight blonde hair and white top.

Journalist, author and trade analyst. Founder of Containers Don't Lie.

Lori Ann LaRocco has spent her career turning global trade data into reporting that people can act on. She spent 26 years at CNBC, most recently as senior editor of guests and global supply chain reporter, before leaving to build LaRocco Consulting and create Containers Don't Lie.

Twenty-six years at CNBC

She joined CNBC in 2000, first hired as one of Maria Bartiromo's producers on Bartiromo's first primetime show, Market Week. Over the next 26 years she coordinated high profile interviews and multimillion dollar on-location productions across the network, and covered global supply chains as the beat moved from the back of the business pages to the front.

Before CNBC she worked as an anchor, reporter and assignment editor in local news markets around the country. Her writing has also appeared in The Washington Post, Forbes and Newsday.

What she writes now

She is president of LaRocco Consulting, a supply chain data and trade policy analysis firm, and writes Trade Alert on Substack. She is also a columnist for gCaptain, covering tanker movements, chokepoint risk, sanctions exposure and the freight data that signals where the economy is heading before the official numbers catch up.

The data behind the reporting

She works regularly with Vortexa, Windward, Kpler, Xeneta, ImportGenius, project44, Vizion, LexisNexis, BIMCO and the US Energy Information Administration, and with analysts at Lloyd's List Intelligence.

In the media

Beyond her own writing, LaRocco is a regular voice on global business television. She has appeared on CNBC, MSNBC, NBC Nightly News, Fox Business, TalkTV, BBC and the BBC World News Service, and has been quoted across numerous print organizations.

Most recently she joined Fox Business's Making Money to discuss the state of energy trade through the Strait of Hormuz.

Watch on Fox Business.

Why she created Containers Don't Lie

Containers Don't Lie takes its name from her 2019 book, and from the idea behind it. Container and tanker movements show what is actually happening in the global economy, whatever is being said publicly.

The symposium is invitation only and runs under Chatham House Rules, so that shipping, logistics, energy and trade leaders can speak candidly. CDL Europe takes place in London on November 16 and 17, 2026. CDL U.S. takes place in Washington on June 14 and 15, 2027.

Outside the newsroom

She is a board member of the Rose Brucia Educational Foundation, which provides free stranger safety education to schools and families around the world. She is a mother of three.
